    How Curbside Pickup works:

    1. Place your holds online (rdpl.bibliocommons.com) or by phone (403-346-4576).
    2. Wait for pick up notices via email or phone.
    3. Pick up holds at your selected branch.
    4. When you arrive to pick up your holds, call 403-346-4576 and the extension for the branch you are visiting (Downtown: press 1; Dawe: press 2; Timberlands: press 3). Note: These phone numbers are also available on the door to the library. If you do not have a phone, you can ring the doorbell and staff will come to the door to take your information. If possible, please have your library card number available as it makes for a smoother checkout process.

  • Yes. The Government of Alberta has announced new temporary measures to reduce transmission of COVID-19, including mandatory masking in all indoor public spaces and workplaces. Therefore, effective September 4, 2021, masks are required for all Red Deer Public Library visitors, staff, and volunteers. This applies to everyone ages two and over. Masks must be completely covering your mouth and nose at all times when inside the library.

  • We appreciate your need for an exemption; however, our mask requirement was put in place to protect the safety of our staff and other patrons, therefore masks are always required. We are happy to assist you as best we can from the door but we cannot permit entrance to anyone without a mask.

  • When designing our COVID safety protocols, we trust the experts at the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services over all other sources of information. From alberta.ca/masks:

Face shields do not replace masks or face coverings.

A face shield is used to protect the eyes of the person wearing it. Using a face shield without a mask won’t protect:

    • you from potentially inhaling infectious respiratory droplets exhaled by others
    • others from your infectious respiratory droplets, as they can escape around the face shield

There has not been any clear indication from Alberta Health Services that any form of face shield is effective on its own without a mask. Because our number one priority is ensuring that all of our staff and customers are as safe as they possibly can be, we are not able to accept any form of face shield without an accompanying mask.

  • Yes! All branches of RDPL are OPEN with limited in-person services. Masks are mandatory for all visitors at this time.

Curbside pickup services will continue to be available at all branches for those who do not wish to enter the facility or those who are unable to wear a mask.

  • With the exception of toys, games, and certain specialized kits, members may return library materials to any branch of RDPL or in the book drop at the Collicutt Centre.

The exterior book drops at all library locations are open 24/7, so you can return your materials at any time. The Collicutt book drop is located inside the building, and is therefore only available during their operating hours.

  • The Friends of the Library Book Store at the Downtown Branch is open during library hours.

We are accepting book donations at the Downtown Branch. Staff will let you know where to place your donations when you come in.

  • While indoor in-person programs are currently on hold, we are offering take-home activities (Kits to Go) and virtual programs to keep you busy from the comfort and safety of your home. Some outdoor programming may also be available. Check our events listing for details.

  • Computer access, including printing services, is available at all of our library branches during open hours. Computer sessions are limited to two hours per day.
