Local Author Fair Application

Local Author Fair

Calling all published Alberta writers!

RDPL is hosting a local author fair on Sunday, September 22 as part of our Alberta Culture Days celebrations! We are excited to connect some of the incredibly talented writers in our area with a community of readers.

Date: September 22, 2024
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Location: Downtown Branch of Red Deer Public Library

Throughout the Downtown Branch of RDPL, local authors will each receive a table where they can display and talk about their work and sell books to interested library visitors.

Space is limited for this event. If you are a local author/writer interested in sharing your work with the community at this fair, please fill out the application form below by July 25. We are interested in hearing from writers of all types of books for all ages.

We thank everyone for their interest in this event, but unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate every applicant. Those who are selected for this event will be contacted via email by August 9.

Important Information (please read!):

  • To be eligible to participate, authors must reside in Alberta. Preference will be given to Central Alberta authors, depending on space limitations.
  • We are hoping to have a diverse range of books of different types/genres for all ages included in the event, so that will play a role in determining which authors are selected.
  • Additional criteria, such as publication quality, publication date, local interest, and artistic merit will also be considered.
  • Authors may be asked to submit a hard copy of their work to the library by mail or in person. The book will be returned to the author.
  • The library will not pay authors for their participation in the event, nor will we reimburse any travel or other expenses. There is no fee to participate in this event.
  • Authors must attend the event and are responsible for their own exhibits, including money, cash boxes, change, products, signage, credit card readers, or other items they wish to use.
  • The authors must be willingly and legally able to sell their books at the event.
  • The library has publicly accessible Wi-Fi. The library cannot provide technical support.
  • Electrical outlets may not be available (please indicate in your application whether or not you need an electrical outlet).
  • The library will promote the event as a library program, but it does not endorse or spotlight any one author to the exclusion of others. Authors are also strongly encouraged to promote the author fair through any networks available to them.
  • Selected participants must provide the library with a high-resolution headshot and image of the book cover and a brief synopsis of the book. You agree to allow Red Deer Public Library to use the images and synopses as free promotional materials for the event.
  • The event will be photographed and/or videotaped for library promotional purposes.
  • Red Deer Public Library reserves the right to accept or refuse any applicant at its discretion.
