Here are a few highlights from December 2025 at RDPL!
Teen Cafe
We wrapped up the year with our final Teen Cafe, welcoming 21 teens for a fun-filled pizza and movie party. Even more exciting programs and activities are already in the works for 2026 – we love hanging with this crew!

Katja’s 2025 in Books
One very full year of stories.
In 2025, Katja listened to 212 reading sessions, and kids read 514 books to her. Some stories were short, some were long, some were read quietly, and some very proudly out loud. Every single one mattered. Katja showed up week after week with calm paws, soft eyes, and endless patience, reminding us that reading doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to begin.
Thank you to every child, family, educator, and reader who shared a page with her this year. Here’s to more stories, more courage, and more gentle listening in 2026. Here are some of our most favourite Katja’s pictures from 2025.

Teen Discord Knighthood Granted!
Teen Discord, opens a new window member/Emperor of the great micro-nation Levinia, Ben Levinson, bestowed knighthoods upon both Claire and Simon (RDPL's Teen Discord hosts). They shall henceforth be known as Dame Claire Brown and Sir Simon Gorman!
Jane Austen's 250th Birthday
To celebrate Jane Austen's 250th birthday on December 16. There was a screening of two film adaptations of her timeless novels and there were cupcakes too!
“One cannot have too large a party. A large party secures its own amusement.”
- Jane Austen in her novel Emma.
Christmas Sweater Day
Library staff donned their best ugly or festive Christmas sweater on December 19! We love a good theme day around here 😉

Read or Reread Book Club: Inspector Gamache
The Read or Reread Book Club: Inspector Gamache series ended in December with members of this book club reading the complete series of twenty titles in ten months. The series ended with Louise Penny’s newest publication, The Black Wolf.
Festive Fun at the Library
Our annual Sugarplum Storytime saw 12 children and 8 adults come out for some Christmas fun. Everyone enjoyed stories, songs and the main attraction, puppet shows. The kids also got to make a Christmas tree craft and some cookies to decorate and enjoy.
This was the first year we tried to combine babies and toddlers and do a special Winter Wonderland Storytime. We were very happy with the turnout, with 29 children and 25 adults coming to join us! We did stories, songs and rhymes for the first half. During the second half, we had different stations including snowman bowling, snowball toss, sensory bottles, penguin colour matching, a felt Christmas tree to decorate and a melting snowman craft. Everyone had such a great time, we will be doing it again next year.

Happy Noon Year Party!
The Noon Year Party made a spectacular comeback. It was the first one since 2019 and we weren’t sure what to expect. But we were not disappointed! We had between 50 and 60 children plus parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. In total, almost 100 people enjoyed dancing, making crowns and paper plate shakers, a photo booth, a door prize for the children and of course a countdown to the Noon Year and “champagne” (Canada Dry Ginger ale. It is the champagne of ginger ale, after all) to celebrate!
Wishing everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
