Interlibrary Loan (ILL) involves sharing library materials between library systems.
If Red Deer Public Library doesn’t own an item that you’d like to borrow, our Interlibrary Loans staff will try to get a copy from another library system within Alberta (or beyond, if needed!). While we will try our best to track down your desired item, we are not always able to accommodate every request.
Effective January 2023, the limit on the number of items you can request via Interlibrary Loan has been lowered to 15 at a time.
**Please be sure to return all Interlibrary loan items on time and in good condition. Overdue fines of $.25 per day will be charged for all Interlibrary Loan items. Items lost, damaged, or returned 6 or more weeks overdue will be charged $150.00.**
The process of requesting an Interlibrary Loan is as follows:
- Before you request an item through Interlibrary Loan, please check the RDPL Library catalogue to see if the Library already owns the item. Please note that new items or soon-to-be-released items may not currently appear in our catalogue. Please speak to a staff member to request these items.
- If the item you are looking for is not available at Red Deer Public Library, use the Relais D2D Alberta Public Library Resource Sharing System to request an item from another library in Alberta. When prompted to choose your location, select Red Deer Public Library.
- If you are unable to locate the item via Relais, please Contact Us and we will do our best to track down the item for you! Please include as much information as possible, and include your library card number in the main text area (if you have one).
- To request a copy of a newspaper, magazine, or journal article, please Contact Us directly. Again, please include as much information as possible.
