Interlibrary Loan (ILL) involves sharing library materials between library systems.
If Red Deer Public Library doesn’t own an item that you’d like to borrow, our Interlibrary Loans staff will try to get a copy from another library system within Alberta (or beyond, if needed!). While we will try our best to track down your desired item, we are not always able to accommodate every request.
The limit on the number of items you can request via Interlibrary Loan is 15 at a time.
**Overdue fines of $0.25 per day will be charged for all Interlibrary Loan items. In addition, items lost or damaged will be charged according to the invoiced amount from the lending library. Please be aware that these fees can be quite high. Please care for your items and return them on time to avoid these charges.**
The process of requesting an Interlibrary Loan is as follows:
- Before you request an item through Interlibrary Loan, please check the RDPL Library catalogue to see if the Library already owns the item. Please note that new items or soon-to-be-released items may not currently appear in our catalogue. Please speak to a staff member to request these items.
- If the item you are looking for is not available at Red Deer Public Library, use the Relais D2D Alberta Public Library Resource Sharing System to request an item from another library in Alberta. When prompted to choose your location, select Red Deer Public Library.
- If you are unable to locate the item via Relais, please Contact Us and we will do our best to track down the item for you! Please include as much information as possible, and include your library card number in the main text area (if you have one).
- To request a copy of a newspaper, magazine, or journal article, please Contact Us directly. Again, please include as much information as possible.
